Sexual Assault
Someone to Desire (STD) likes to have a good laugh here and there about the dating game. But with the dating game, also comes difficult social issues, rape being one of those issues. We believe the issue needs more education and awareness. With education and awareness, we can help people understand how much rape affects our community, how to help our friends and family who are impacted by it, and to help us understand the occurrences and what rape victims go through. Knowing that someone we know has been raped or sexually assaulted doesn’t have to be something we run from or stand dumbfounded when we’re told. Awareness and education helps our sexually assaulted and rape victims to know what to expect and how to deal with it. It also allows our loved ones to best know how to support us and understand the issue they face, some of which include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and sleeping problems.
One of the most important to do is to find your local rape crisis center and utilize their resources. They are trained in dealing with victims of sexual assault and rape, as well as understand the issues they face. Even if you or your loved one can just call the rape crisis hotline, it’s a step in the right direction. It would also be wise to see a psychiatrist if the rape victim needs to be put on any certain meds. Being encouraging and understanding the need for meds is important, even for just a short period of time, some victims will need the extra help to get through a difficult time.
